Her-icane GoDiva Reading at McNally Robinson

I’ll be reading at McNally Robinson Bookstore in Saskatoon on Monday, March 12, 2007 at 7pm in the Art Alcove. This reading is part of the Her-icane GoDiva Festival of Women’s Art.

This reading will be my first “public appearance” since we returned to Saskatoon so I am quite excited! As usual, I had grand plans for all sorts of performances and projects but am trying very hard to go slow so that I can return to full health and energy levels quickly. I figure I can handle standing and reading my own work.

I plan to read from my book what is this place we have come to as well as from some work I wrote in Japan and some of the anatomy-inspired work that is related to my current project, splanchnologies. I’m especially excited about being able to read from my book as I was in Japan at the time of the launch (November 2003) and this is the first chance I’ve had to read from it in public, though I heard that my editor, Shelley Leedahl, did a great job reading for me at the launch.

On the work front, I’m still going through boxes, but I’ve been reading Hélène Cixous during breaks. I’m finding her work absolutely fascinating, especially her ideas on “feminine writing.” My brain, though it is back, is still a bit too foggy to articulate what exactly I think about her work, but as I read more and regain some brain power I am sure to write about it here. Before bed I’ve been reading Margaret Atwood’s Penelopiad, which I love. It is part of a series of re-tellings of myths. I want to get hold of whichever one A.S. Byatt did next. I’ve still been listening to my iPod on shuffle mode. This week: lots of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. However, there were a couple days of Steve Reich in there, as requested by Jarrod. Yes, my 11-year-old is requesting Reich. I am a proud New Music mama!

    hello me dear!
Nice to know about you. I am well. just had a good tutorial, telling me that i am going in the right direction with my dissertation. Yay!- It has been rather very exciting this brainy work really. uuhhh.- This year again am doing the voice minor, and i missed only the first week. better than last year. This year it is shared between Misri and Emma Brown again, who is great!-Misha is on maternity leave!-
Concerning my practical work, it looks like it is, shall we say, dormant. (which is a very nice way of putting it because it implies that i am doing it, even if it doesn’t look like it!).
The sun has been shining quite a lot around here, so all the english people are delighted and the non-english too. The magnolias in the garden are out. I have not seen Andy very much. I guess we’re all “charging” (I just asked John for this new word which is now established in my english vocabulary), charging into our final work. Have seen more of Imogene and the two Kates: Ashman and Rowles.
All the best for you darling dear, say hello to small big Jarrod and to big small Ed. Kiss kiss Ma-Ma-Marina
