I’m almost at a segue with my goals this week. It’s partially because I’ve managed to complete all four goals I started out with and part of me is thinking “now what?” Today I’m going to try to come up with some new goals and still keep the reasonable aspects of them.
Last week was very successful in terms of my one goal: to do a rough edit of susurrations. I completed that with ease and did some audio editing and mixing with Gilles at Froghappy Studios. I’ve gone beyond that and have done more video editing and the titles. Gilles and I are meeting again tomorrow to do what will hopefully be a final audio mix for the piece.
So though it was useful for me to only have one goal last week I surpassed it, which feels good but makes me think I could have added another goal. I’m not convinced that is a reasonable way to think about it but there it is.
Goals of the Week – 26 Jan-1 Feb, 2009
1. To complete the video & audio editing of susurrations enough that I can let it sit over the weekend and make the last and final edits early next week.
2. To organize, prepare and be in Regina for the 60×60 concert at Bushwakker’s.
3. To plan my outfit for the Midwinter Literary Salon (poetic dress code).
4. To make some basic notes re: the work I’ll be doing at the SWG colony Feb 6-13.Long-Term Goals
– to complete & market susurrations
– to have a piece that encapsulates splanchnologies
– to create a New Music ensemble in SaskatoonOngoing Projects
– splanchnologies
– voice work
– find my place/space(yes, those last two a new and vague… somewhat unformed thoughts that have appeared in my journalling over the past couple of weeks)
The most important thing I want to get done this week is susurrations. That is the want. The need is to be ready for the Regina event (which really is not all that complicated but feels complicated for some bizarre reason). I’ve got enough time to finish up susurrations enough to let it sit. About an hour of work today will prepare me for editing with Gilles tomorrow and I can do a bit of video editing on Wednesday. I definitely have the most energy for susurrations. In fact, I’m a bit obsessed with it at the moment. It’s been a while since I worked on something on a Sunday night but I did that last night because it was all I could think about.
Right now I’m struggling with the fact that I have a lot on my plate, and a lot of it is administrative work. I’m also at the end of a large project so there is a shift taking place. What do I work on next? There is a pull towards spending some time just catching up with the admin work but I know that if I do that I will spiral down into a “I haven’t done any creative work for weeks!” depression. Perhaps it is ideal that I will be at a writer/artist colony the end of next week. It will give me a chance to work on some text and also assess what the next creative focus will be.
I feel as if these weekly goal blogging sessions are giving me a focus for the work I’m doing, as well as a documentation of my process. A window into the flow of thoughts I go through in order to do the multi-faceted work that I do. So much organization needs to take place in order for me to do this sort of work, but when things are in place the work happens so fluidly.
