Regarding the office environment at my school—and yours isn't really that different from mine—the best description I've managed to think of is that it's like a cubicle farm with half-size cubicles, minus the dividers, and mixed in with the Wal-Mart customer service counter. Very little space, and depending on the time of year, either no one at all, or waves of demanding customers.

I get the sports thing too. My co-workers are finally starting to accept that cycling is a sport. But my school puts a lot more emphasis on more traditional Japanese culture, which takes a bit of the edge off the jock obsession.

And I have my own rant about mental space, but that'll go up on my own blog.
