At my school there isn't anything as elegant as "waterfall noises." Nope, from what I can tell, the ladies at Yahata have to make do with a sound-of-flushing-toilets white noise generator. For those of worried that I'm a panchira freak, the only reason I know this is because the teachers' washrooms have a dividing wall that has poor sound insulation as well as large-ish vent spaces at the top. Anyone can hear anything.

And to prevent—appropriately, I accidently typed that as "pervent" at first—emotional scarring via a google search panchira has something to do with sneaking peeks up women's skirts to see their underwear. It's amazing how 2 years in Japan can expand a person's vocabulary, isn't it?

We're definitely going to read more Diana Wynne Jones - library, here I come! (20 days until Saskatoon!)

re; students flirting - at least this student speaks to me! More often the boys just stare at my chest or hips and either grin in a decidedly lusty way, or else turn red. I even had some boys outside the teacher's washroom listening to me pee once. Japanese women are very shy about "bathroom noises" so most washrooms have little electronic boxes that you can press a button on and a recorded waterfall sound drowns out any "embarrasing" noises. However, the western style toilet does not have one of these boxes - not that I generally use them anyways! Also, see the rant for more on my students' reaction to my sexiness!

and the ranting .... most of it is written in my private journal, but sometimes I just gotta share!

"Howl's Moving Castle" was un-put-downable. Likewise "The Worlds of Chrestomanci". These books are amazing. My daughter let me read hers.

Your student needs the flirting practice. It's an important thing to be able to do in any language. His style seems a wee bit heavy, but perhaps the fact that he is doing remedial English vocabulary work partly explains it. Perhaps his heart will be broken, but he's very lucky to have a gorgeous, romantic foreigner to dream about.

I need to check back and find you ranting. As usual, I haven't been keeping up. But I seriously agree that you should go ahead and rant any time you need to.

My friend Troy wrote about the *Castle* movie in his blog yesterday and posted some pics from the film that you might find interesting.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/uberdionysus/227415.html?#cutid1

Now I'm interested in reading the book as well as seeing the movie.

And I think you should feel free to rant whenever you wish - that's part of journaling, of course!

P.S. I just got Pi... will let you know how I like it.
